What a move in Perth CBD really involves
The CBD is the most constrained environment we work in, and the constraints are almost never about the furniture. A Perth tower move lives or dies on the dock booking, the goods lift allocation and the after-hours access process, and all three are controlled by a building manager who has other tenants to think about.
We lodge dock and lift bookings at both ends before the shutdown date is confirmed. If a building will only give a three-hour Friday night slot, the fleet is sized to fit that slot rather than the other way around.
Access constraints we plan around here
These are the six things a relocation manager measures on the survey. They decide the fleet, the crew size and the length of the shutdown.
- Loading docks
- Most Terrace towers require a booked dock slot with a height limit between 3.5 m and 4.2 m. Some restrict removals traffic entirely to after hours.
- Goods lifts
- Usually one per tower, shared with every other tenant and contractor. Allocation is by booking, often in two-hour blocks.
- Lift protection
- Building managers require lift linings, floor protection and corner guards, supplied and fitted by us.
- Certificates of currency
- Public liability certificates naming the building owner are required before access is granted, typically 5 business days ahead.
- After-hours access
- Security escort or access card programming for the crew, arranged through the building manager and lodged with names in advance.
- Street loading
- Where there is no dock, a City of Perth permit is required for kerbside loading. Lead times apply and clearway hours are enforced.
